The Experimentalist Podcast Session 047 by Brandon Mitchell

I apologize for missing last week's Experimentalist. I was out of town in Pinehurst, NC playing golf for 5 straight days. It was absolutely incredible. Some people are opposed to the entire concept of golf thinking of it as an elitist activity. That point of view is easy to see especially after you've seen George Carlin's rant. I'll link that somewhere below. However, golf courses are one of the largest art installations you can find on the planet. They are interactive, so almost as close to a 4D simulation as you can get. In fact, that could be what four dimensions is all about. You can experience physical beauty along with personal strength and weakness. You compete with your own abilities and the laws of nature that are at times helpful and other times mind boggling. It's one challenging activity (like music) that you can work on understanding for an entire lifetime and that is a nice thing to find to help keep you focused on moving forward through this life without giving up and giving in.
So, this episode and the rest that will follow until we hit number 50 will be song based with some improv. I'll be rehearsing for a sweet summertime poolside gig in Eastern PA. This session is versions of "Cosmos" (9min), "Trouble" (3min), and "Words of Love" (9min). Hope you enjoy some of these sounds.

A LIVE EP--Hold on. No not exactly. Ogle B attempts a fully live session but some issues take place. 1) There's a stretch where he cannot nail down a drum transition. That part gets cut. 2) He loops a fairly complicated chord progression on guitar (about 16 chord changes) and takes a long time to figure out those chords on piano so. . .that part gets way cut. 3) He breaks his guitar. Needless to say, that part is cut too. So, some of the live session is played here but not all. Please enjoy what is.

The Experimentalist Podcast: Session 045 by Brandon Mitchell

Here's what happened. One day, a friend named Gina came by with a baby kitten. She had rescued it from a construction site at the local college. It was raining that day and the cat had slipped into a 2 foot deep hole into which a steel girder was about to be placed. Gina heard it's bird-like chirps to hopefully be saved. She reached into the muddy hole and he was.

She brought him to Ang and I and we raised him. He was named Silas but became The Butters by way of "Biddies", "Little Buddy", "Budders", "Fat Budders", "The Fats", "The Fat Butts", and ultimately The Butters. Sometimes he went by "Stankums".

When he was 2, he appeared on the inside sleeve of a CD jacket. In the photo, he was sitting up with his legs open wide exposing his junk, and in a voice bubble, he was saying, "Sucka D!". Now he's 15, and he's saying it on the Tardis. Sweet!

There once was a time long, long ago when 'The Experimentalist Podcast' was sponsored by tasty brews from all over the land. Then one day some negative results came down from a local doctor. He said, "In order to maintain your life as you know it, you must take this bottle of roids over the course of 1 month and 6 days. And don't drink alcohol during this period, you dumb son of a bitch!"

"Nooo!" shouted Ogle B Straight. This has to be a nightmare from which I shall never awaken.

"Nope," said the doctor. "It's just a month, I mean, grow up."

Well, it brings up a few things that should be discussed or at least pondered. Things like how much should one really love and admire beer.

Many times when you're reading, writing, listening, and thinking, things get overwhelming. It's hard to tell when you're being critical or just being stupid. It's a good thing to find the time to go deep and really analyze yourself in these periods, but at some point you've got to make a decision. You've got to take a stand on what you believe in. After being in a time period just like this, Ogle B Straight may have found answers in some unexpected places. He realizes that sometimes not so good results can still have satisfying outcomes.
