The Experimentalist Podcast: Session 065 by Brandon Mitchell

Ogle B Straight continues the journey by way of this podcast. He makes interesting discoveries about his existence in this particular episode. It starts with some confusion and possibly some expressions of melancholy, but after a strong connection is reached with his musical instruments and a Lot. 6 Double IPA, things take a turn toward hope.

The Experimentalist Podcast: Session 064 by Brandon Mitchell

A SPECIAL EPISODE with tons of nods to the late, great David Bowie. Ogle B improvises a lot of solo piano with teases of at least 8 different Bowie tunes. A very special IPA gets introduced in the middle of the session and some vocal fun is had. . .in and out of tune. Apologies are in store for the massacre that takes place late in the program. It might have been wise for Ogle B to delete that final attempt at Bowie's classic, "Life on Mars", but he said: "Who gives, you know? People perform that song and kill. It's hard. I wouldn't do it for serious, but this is. . .you know, a goof. As I figured out recently, I do these "sessions" (he actually makes air quotes with his hands) to remind myself of the fun element of music, or more-so, creativity. Becoming a "great" (air quotes again (man, he must be in love with those right now)) musician or performer is hard work. It's non-stop and that part of the process is really not interesting at all. But, something about that time where you're just mucking around, goofing like who-the-hell-cares, that's a huge part of the whole thing. That's what gets us going and keeps us interested. It's also the most embarrassing thing there is. I'm just learning how to feel embarrassed and not equate that with feeling "bad" or "scared". You know what I'm sayin'?"

Bonus: Purchase a copy of 'The Experimentalist 2', Ogle B Straight's instrumental loop-based album arranged by Karsh McCabe, by Feb 5 and the proceeds will go to the Massey Cancer Foundation.

The Experimentalist Podcast: Session 063 by Brandon Mitchell

David Bowie passed away this week. It has been very emotional for many, many people. I have been fortunate to learn and perform a few dozen of his songs. His material has been transforming my life and it blows my mind on a daily basis. The band Mekong Xpress invited myself and the members of the Bowie tribute band, Life on Mars, to play some tunes on the day of his passing at The Answer Brewpub in RVA. I thank them. It meant a lot...and it was fun! I got to play harmonica with Bob Miller and Toby Whitaker blasting horn lines directly into my ears. Amazing! I don't talk of that specifically in this episode, but I wanted to catalog the experience at the proper time.

I'd like to make a correction that I failed to make in the episode itself. I don't mean that 'Bridge of Spies', 'Star Wars', or 'The Hateful Eight' are not good or great films. I meant that smaller, lesser known movies like 'Room', 'Mistress America', 'It Follows' and more are out there and it highly delights me when these movies find their way through.

Enjoy the music!

Let's just say there's some rust build up on this podcast. That's just how it is this time of year. Winter time. Post Holiday. It's okay. Just pick it back up and get the ball rolling again. Music doesn't stop. It's out there and we human beings can luckily tap into that. That's what's going on here. I, Ogle B Straight, am getting it going again. There's not much more to this episode than that. Hope you enjoy the sounds.

Also, a 2nd episode will be following closely behind this one with a lot more jams. Stay tuned! Peace!!

Is there really an astral plane where you can meet people from another time zone? Or another time period? How about another dimension? This podcast has got me thinking. As I have been documenting these sessions, certain aspects of the space/time continuum appear to be coming loose. I cannot prove it at this point. It's just a sensation that I've been noticing. I know not to jump to any conclusions like the embarrassing disaster when I claimed to have proved the existence of God around the time of 'The Experimentalist 1'. Even though to this day I may still believe that to be true, I know the repercussions of stating such a claim without being able to reproduce the same results. However, certain events in my life are starting to happen out of order and it may be allowing me to communicate with individuals that are long gone. And maybe, just maybe, I could develop the ability to change my future for the better.
